Granular materials, with their disordered structure, constitute an illustrative example of complex systems. Furthermore, our environment, whether material or living, is fundamentally discrete, often across a wide spectrum of scales: communities of living species, biological systems, geomaterials, stellar systems, etc.

This workshop is intended as a forum for exchanges, allowing us to mix and discuss perspectives and approaches on diverse issues concerning granular systems as complex systems:self-organization, self-criticality, phase transition, bifurcation, multi-physical couplings, failure and instabilities, are some of the themes that may be addressed during these three days.

We sincerely hope that this meeting will be transdisciplinary, and will open up stimulating and constructive discussions for our respective communities.
